Tecraft produced VHF preamps, VHF converters and VHF transmitters in the 1950s and 60s. The company advertized in most of the better known amateur radio magazines, including QST, 73 and CQ. The converters were intended to be used with a communcations receiver that tuned, in this particular case, 14-18Mhz for the 50-54Mhz 6 meter band by using a 36Mhz crystal. Other receiver frequencies could be used with a change of crystal frequency on the converter. Tecraft later moved to using nuvisors instead of vacuum tubes in their converters and preamps

The converter seems to work, although I have only been able to pick up a few automated signals. It is connected to a Drake R-4B, so I can tune the 50-52Mhz portion of the band. I do not currently have a 6 meter antenna, but a signal from a signal generator loosely coupled comes in just fine.

It is very difficult to find any information about this converter. Searching online only comfirms that such a converter exists and that it was indeed manufactured by Tecraft. But other than that, not much.

Tecraft CC-50 Schematics

Image

This schematic is a result of tracing the wiring of the Tecraft above. I am fairly confident that the schematic is accurate, but I don't guarantee it. The coils and transformers are still a mystery. And the part labeled RFC looks like one, but who knows.

I believe this circuit is of an earlier version of the CC-50. This schematic represents the circuit I purchased from an online surplus house. It was represtented as a manual for the CC-50 but what I received was a one page mimeograph of a very crude hand-drawn schematic with with the value of some of the parts. Disapointed that a company would misrepresent so completely what it was selling. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the schematic, but it does represnt the mimeographed circuit I received.
